Rice on the Record è l'evoluzione di Ashtray, progetto solista di Paolo Bollero (voce e chitarra). Il debutto In a Slow Silent Walk (Marsiglia Records, 2007), registrato con Germana Bargoni e prodotto da Matteo Casari, segna l'inizio del percorso. Con la successiva formazione a quattro (Francesco Becchi alle tastiere, Furio Guidetti alle chitarre, Mario Mele alla batteria) la band suona accanto ad artisti come Nick Castro, Mirah, Tara Jane O'Neill, Boduf Song, Egle Sommacal, I Treni all'Alba, Stanley Brinks e Thalia Zedek , partecipando anche a diverse compilation della scena indie ligure. Nel 2012 esce They Have Spread Confusion (Fabbrica Musicale Records), con la partecipazione di Mike Watt (Minutemen, Firehose, Stooges) al basso in una ghost track. Nel 2024 entrano Paolo Villa (batteria) e Sebastiano Bolla (basso). Il nuovo album, Keeping Patience in the Chaos, uscito il 12 marzo 2026 su marsiglia records/incadenza è stato registrato allo Studio K con la produzione e supervisione artistica di Berna, vede la partecipazione di ospiti come Mike Watt, Thalia Zedek e Charlie Risso.
