Peter Hammill: A Headlong Stretch - The Fie! Albums 1992-1996

4CD Box Set in uscita il 24 aprile a 45.90€

Newly remastered 4CD box set by Peter Hammill featuring his first four studio albums issued on his own label, Fie! Records, between 1992 and 1996. Peter Hammill first came to prominence as the founding member and voice of the legendary progressive rock group Van der Graaf Generator. Alongside his work with Van der Graaf Generator, Peter Hammill has enjoyed a long career as an innovative and ground-breaking solo artist. In 1992 he established his own label, Fie!, to handle his solo work, beginning with the release of the acclaimed 'Fireships' that year. A more introspective work, the album was labelled in the original liner notes as "Number 1 in the BeCalm series" and received much critical praise thanks to songs such as 'I Will Find You', 'Curtains' and 'Gaia'. In 1993 Peter issued the more rock-orientated album 'The Noise' (stated at the time as being "Number 1 in the A Loud series"). 1995 saw the release of another excellent work, 'Roaring Forties', which included the extended composition 'A Headlong Stretch'. 'X My Heart', issued in March 1996, was another fine work and included songs such as 'Amnesiac' and 'A Better Time'. This collection features newly remastered versions of these albums along with an illustrated booklet with unseen photographs and liner notes by Peter Hammill.

Gryphon: Raindances - The Transatlantic Recordings 1973-1975

2CD Remastered Edition in uscita il 3 aprile a 23.90€

REMASTERED ANTHOLOGY BY THE LEGENDARY PROGRESSIVE ROCK BAND GRYPHON. ALL TRACKS REMASTERED FROM THE ORIGINAL TRANSATLANTIC RECORDS MASTER TAPES. WITH AN ILLUSTRATED BOOKLET FEATURING EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS WITH THE BAND. One of the most original groups to emerge in the progressive era, Gryphon came together at the instigation of Royal College Of Music students Richard Harvey and Brian Gulland, initially as a vehicle to fuse traditional English music with Medieval and Renaissance music influences. Utilising traditional instruments such as Crumhorns, Recorders, Bassoons and Mandolins, Gryphon expanded with the addition of Graeme Taylor on guitar and Dave Oberle on drums. Signing to Transatlantic Records, Gryphon released their eponymous debut album in June 1973. Their unique musical style led to a commission to write a score for a stage production of The Tempest in 1974, parts of which formed the band's next album, 'Midnight Mushrumps'. By this time bass guitarist Philip Nestor had joined the fold, and the band began to explore more progressive influences (with the album's title track being an 18-minute opus). The progressive rock influences became even more apparent on Gryphon's acclaimed third album, 'Red Queen To Gryphon Three', released in December 1974. The album was one of the most successful of Gryphon's career and the diversity of their music saw Gryphon earn the distinction of being the first artists to appear on all four BBC radio networks in one week. During this time Gryphon also toured as the support act to YES, gaining new followers as a result. 'Raindance' was Gryphon's final album for Transatlantic Records. Issued in 1975, the record saw Philip Nestor replaced by Malcolm Bennett. 'Raindances' gathers together all the material from Gryphon's four albums recorded for Transatlantic Records and has been newly remastered from the original master tapes. This anthology features an illustrated booklet with an essay by Malcolm Dome and includes exclusive interviews with Richard Harvey, Brian Gulland, Graeme Taylor and Dave Oberle.

The Black Crowes - A Pound Of Feathers

Various Artists: A World Of Our Own - The UK & Irish Folk Explosion Of 1965

3CD Box Set in uscita il 24 aprile a 39.90€

Three disc set highlighting the UK folk explosion of 1965.
Featuring 86 tracks by the key UK scene setters and a host of American visitors.
The emergence of Bob Dylan in the few years previous to 1965 sent shockwaves through the UK folk scene with his impact immediate and felt far and wide but by 1965 UK folkies were developing their own thing.
There were those that looked back to the folk tradition but brought it up to date so as to be more in line with contemporary tastes, such as The Ian Campbell Folk Group, Shirley Collins, Dominic Behan, The Dubliners, Martin Carthy, and The Watersons, among others.
By this time pop music had also succumbed to the folk influence as can be evidenced by singles released by the likes of Donovan, The Seekers, Chad And Jeremy, Unit Four Plus Two, Peter And Gordon, and many others.
1965 was also the year when female folk singers came to the fore in the UK with Julie Felix becoming massively popular. Crowned "Britain's First Lady of Folk", Felix became the first folk artist to sell out the Albert Hall and also become the first pop artist to perform at Westminster Abbey. Marianne Faithfull released folk material in May 1965 and Vashti Bunyan's debut single also arrived that month.
That year we also saw key releases by artists whose work would provide the bridge from folk to rock. Davy Graham was a brilliant guitarist who fused traditional folk music with a variety of wide-ranging influences, creating something new and vital. Bert Jansch was another trailblazing guitar-player whose idiosyncratic style was absorbed by many that followed. Both artists' work would be massively influential on the likes of The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, and many others.
Although the UK was making its own way there was still some US involvement as can be evidenced by visiting artists who recorded here, such as Paul Simon, Jackson C. Frank, and Jesse Fuller. There are also plenty of covers of US songs included here with the likes of Dorris Henderson, Dave Helling, The Malcolm Price Trio, Patrick Small, Dedicated Man's Jugband, and more, all sourcing material from America.
