Nella nuova raccolta di canzoni della pirateria troviamo interpretazioni di Tom Waits, Keith Richards, Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, Patti Smith, Sean Lennon e molti altri, produttori esecutivi del progetto Johnny Depp e Gore Verbinski. La raccolta è il seguito del progetto del 2006, sempre di Hal Willner, Rogues Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys (Anti‐), elogiato da The New York Times come “un album forte nelle idee e nel cuore” e da Entertainment Weekly “una rivelatoria raccolta di canzoni folk con il mare nel ruolo di protagonista”. Willner, meglio conosciuto per i suoi tributi a Thelonious Monk, Kurt Weill, Harold Arlen e molti altri, ha avuto l’idea delle Rogue’s Gallery compilation insieme all’attore Johnny Depp e al regista Gore Verbinski mentre erano sul set di Pirati dei Caraibi ‐ La maledizione del forziere fantasma (secondo capitolo della saga). A proposito della nuova raccolta Willner racconta “Circa un anno fa ho segretamente pensato che non avremmo mai finito. Mentre il primo voume è stato semplice da coordinare, questo è stato il contrario ma si tratta di un disco molto diverso dal primo. Questo sembra più…felice? Meno tortura, sodomia e morte, qualcuno ne sarà deluso ma, non abbiamo bisogno di ripeterci, giusto?”
